The 11 Plus and entrance examinations for grammar and independent schools usually use a combination of Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, Mathematics and English papers to test students.

There are two main types of paper which students may face. The first is 'standard' which means students work out their answers and write them directly next to the questions in each paper. The second is 'multiple choice' and as the name indicates, students work out their answers and then mark one choice - usually from 5 options - on an answer paper. It is important to find out which type of paper the school or area in which you are interested operates so your child can prepare in the best way.

The amount of time needed for preparation varies from student to students but I find that the most success comes from those who dedicate a year to tuition, one hour a week, with regular homework and practice questions set. I currently prepare students in the Greater Manchester area for the schools listed below in the left hand column. Additionally, I prepare some students each week for examinations in other areas using online tuition. These schools are listed in the column on the right. I am now taking bookings for children wishing to begin their tuition in autumn 2011. These students should be entering year 5. I am assessing all students who are currently nearing the end of year 4. The assessments will take place through August on Wednesday mornings and will cover English and Mathematics.
