In order to become a fully qualified teacher, prospective candidates now have to pass tests in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT.
Literacy
The Literacy test consists of four sections:
- spelling - 10 marks
- punctuation - 15 marks
- grammar - 8-12 marks
- comprehension - 8-12 marks
Candidates are required to score 60% (29 out of 48) to pass.
Numeracy
The numeracy test consists of 3 types of question in 2 sections. The first section is audio - that is - questions are read out and candidates enter their answer via the computer keyboard. The second section has questions shown on the screen and candidates calculate their answers then enter them via the computer keyboard.
- Mental - 12 marks (section 1)
- Interpret and use statistical information - 7 marks (section 2)
- Use and apply general arithmetic - 9 marks (section 2)
Candidates are required to score 60% (17/28) to pass.
